Gumboot Friday

Gumboot Friday

Malo ele lei bloggers. On Friday we had Gumboot Friday. Teachers wore gumboots and students too wore gumboots to school. On that day we made some cards with little quotes about Mental health. Mental health is like brain stuff. It is mostly about your brain thinking. Mental health might also mean what they think about themselves. Little quotes were written on the cards. We were hoping it will brighten up their day. The quotes were about them being happy or them being who they are. There were some quotes that said Be happy, be positive, be you and some quotes that said Do what makes you feel happy. The quotes were written by the Senior Block. On Tuesday we started to walk across the streets and just post them into random mail boxes.

Before we did all of this, 30 students got to write down what their opinion was for New Zealand. There were about 12 options to choose from. The 12 options were about what they think New Zealand should work on. One option was about Mental health. A couple of students circled Mental health. They had to write down why they chose it and what they might do to help the option they chose to improve. One of the students wrote We could write some cards and put them in random mailboxes down the street. The teachers read it and thought it might be a fantastic idea to do. So that is how this all happened.

This relates to our inquiry topic. The topic is “HAURO” which means WELL BEING in English. I felt really good and kind when I started to put them in the mail boxes. Over 1 million dollars was raised in New Zealand. One day we got an email from a lady with a son. She said a big thank you for the card. She also said that her son read it, it had completely changed him. Just to let you know, little things can be huge.
Blog you guys later!!!
